Celebrate Baby’s First Christmas with a Handprint Footprint Impression
Baby’s first Christmas is probably the most important one in his and your lives. Therefore, you need to make sure that it is a long cherished one. There are some great baby keepsakes ideas, which will make your baby’s first Christmas ornament a treat for him and a long-lasting sweet memorabilia for you. You can play a lot with baby footprints to make some great handprint ornaments and footprint ornaments. Baby prints are probably the easiest and the most cherished keepsakes to play around with. Glass, ceramics, clay and even precious metals and stones can be used to design that perfect Christmas gift for your young-one.
One of the easiest to design handprints ornaments is the plaster of Paris disk. You will need about half a cup of POP for this one and a pen or perfectly round stick to create an even hole in the center of the disk and a ribbon to hold it on. You might also need a round cauldron to pour and give shape to the POP. Pour the POP into the container, wait for 5 minutes. Then gently press your baby’s hand onto the semi-fluid layer of POP that’s been formed over 5 minutes. Make sure the baby doesn’t move its hand too much. If something like this happens and the design is ruined, you can even it out again using a spoon or cardboard. Once you have your baby’s handprint planted and engraved at the right spot in the disk, use the stick to create a hole in the disk while the POP is still soft enough to be penetrated. Hold the stick vertical, in order to create the smallest possible hole, without ruining the design by creating a fissure. After about 20 minutes, your POP would have dried out. Insert a ribbon in the hole, and your baby handprint ornament is ready. Similar steps could be carried out while designing a baby footprint ornament.
Another easy-to make baby ornament is carved by the use of glass balls. You would need a few glass balls that are large enough to hold a baby’s footprint. Make sure that the glass balls are sturdy and will not give way at the pressure of a baby’s footprint. You would also require a few baby-safe acrylic colors. Apply the paint to your baby’s feet, and press it gently against the balls. Make sure that you do not rub or smudge the print. Wash your baby’s feet and palms and move on to the next color. You can have different combinations of colors for a single handprint footprint frames pair. Make sure that you give enough time to the balls to dry before hanging them up on the Christmas tree. Make sure that your handprint-footprint pairs hang together, or you can arrange it in some symmetrical way or the other. This way, by using multiple colors, you can really set the mood this festive season, and give your family and your baby a special gift to cherish for the rest of their lives.
This is also a very unique baby gifts idea for those who are strapped to come up with a great gift that can also be an amazing keepsake.
