Trouble Planning Your Baby Shower-Here are some Do’s and Don’ts
At some point in your life, you can expect to attend a baby shower, and with co ed and mixed couples showers becoming more popular, you are not going to be spared even if you’re a confirmed bachelor guy, and don’t want much to have to do with babies anyway.
Here are just a few simple Ps and Qs to mind whether you’re the one showering or the one being showered.
For the Guests
First up, a baby gifts is an absolute must. There’s now way getting around this one unless you’ve been specifically asked not to get anything. Baby gift baskets are always appreciated as are baby bunches, and if you’re in a quandary about what to buy, you can always buy one of these, and rest assured that it will be appreciated and used. You can always buy a new mom gifts. Even a gift certificate to a spa is a welcome gift that the mom to be will be thankful for.
Be gracious in the way you congratulate the soon to be parent. “Congratulations” can seem a little impersonal because they are expected. See if you can add a card with your gift that includes a beautiful quote about new born babies and parenting. Whether funny, heartwarming or witty, you will find sayings from the likes of Mark Twain and Woody Allen that are guaranteed to elicit a response from the recipient. Just go online and search for “baby quotations” or “new baby quotes” and you’ll get tons of sayings from which to make your choice.
For the Parents
The cardinal rule for a mother to be or a couple expecting a child is to never host their own baby shower. It’s tacky at the very least because baby showers are seen as an exercise in gift giving. Have a close relative or member of the family to throw a shower for you. Be respectful of the hosts of the shower, and don’t make unreasonable demands on them. They’re going to great lengths to make sure your shower is perfect, and you should remember to express your gratefulness with a card and a gift immediately after the shower.
It’s all right if people want to have more than one shower for you. Multiple showers by office colleagues, family members and relatives and separate showers by friends are common these days, just as long as you trim the guest list to invite only those who fall in those categories.
Baby shower favors are an absolute must for attendees of your party. These don’t have to be expensive and there are plenty of choices in inexpensive showers you can make use of, but never remove this item from your list.
